REVIEW : CAPTAIN BLACK BEARD – Struck By Lightning (2018, MelodicRock Records)

Captain Black Beard is a Swedish rock band that was formed back in 2009. Their self-titled debut album was named one of the "Albums Of The Year" by legendary journalist Geoff Barton of Classic Rock. For me, that record was one my biggest and pleasant surprises back then and it's on a regular basis in my cd player.
Their follow-up opus "Before Plastic" featured guest appearances by Bruce Kulick (KISS, Grand Funk Railroad) and Mats Karlsson (220 Volt) and it was again a solid one. In 2016, Captain Black Beard released a new album with the title "It's a Mouthful" and toured with Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen, Deep Purple), Robin Beck, House Of Lords and performed at the festival Hard Rock Hell AOR for the second time in their career.

Nowadays and with a new record deal under their belt , MelodicRock Records) the band is back and sounds better than ever. The new album is entitled "Struck By Lightning" and features ten songs with a more melodic approach that the sure thing is that will gain more popularity.

"All The Pain", the opener, is simply delightful; edgy, catchy and with a killer chorus line "All The Pain" is without any doubt one of the album's top tracks. Next, "Perfect Little Clue" is yet another extremely catchy tune. I really like the attitude here and the heavier approach. To be honest, I just love this one. The pop-ish "Believer" is good while in "Gotta Go" the band delivers a nice rocking song. The edgy and anthemic "Out Of Control" and "Nobody Like You" are two more superb samples of Captain Black Beard's music.

Captain Black Beard's newest effort is solid, powerful, modern and melodic. To be honest, I didn't find any filler or weak moment here. It's one of these records that are enjoyable from start to finish and at the end leaves a sweet taste in your ears.

Rating : 8/10
