REVIEW : Devilfire --- Dark Manoeuvres (2017)

Let's get one thing clear here; this album rocks and it rocks big time!! Man, this came out of nowhere to rock my world and, for damn sure, this is one of the biggest surprises so far. But who is DEVILFIRE really? Devilfire is the brainstorm of Alex Cooper (Shy, Spike of the Quireboys, Ginger), who wanted to create a new melodic hard rock band. "Dark Manoeuvres" is entitled this surprisingly good album that grabbed my attention at once!
The sound of Devilfire is basically edgy n' metallic hard rock with plenty of melodies, attitude, some ultra-catchy choruses to sing-a-long and the necessary AOR pinches for an extra flavor. All the songs here are larger than life and they include big arrangements, passionate and clean vocal harmonies, edgy guitars and, as I already mentioned above, some ultra-catchy hooks n' choruses to whistle for days. Yes, Devilfire music is that good!!!

The co-production is been handled by Romesh Dodangoda (Motorhead, Bring Me The Horizon, Bullet For My Valentine), and obviously this man has done a hell of a job. There's a little bit of early Thunder here, a bit of Little Angels and some The Cult 'touches' here and there but mostly is an 13-track record that is 100% high-quality hard rock at its best!!!

The opening tune of "Ready For War" rocks good while with "She's Like Fire" we have a killer track! This one reminds me a bit of The Cult's hit "Fire Woman" but the bottom line is that this song is pure gold! It's one of these tunes that you wanna raise your fist on the air and sing-a-long! "(In And Out Of Love) All Of The Time" is classy rock and with a more bluesier feeling and it's among my personal favorites. "Kill Your Love", "Devil In Your Eyes" and "Lay It On The Line" are all three excellent rockers that make you push the repeat button again and again. Just check out, also, the beautiful mid-tempo "Tear Me Apart" (with a killer solo) that is yet another highlight out of this debut.

DEVILFIRE with this debut comes out of nowhere to shake things for good. One of the best debuts of 2017, no doubt bout that!!! I really can't imagine a more perfect start for these guys, no way! A hell of a debut and, for damn sure, one of the best melodic hard rock albums of this year!! Excellent stuff!!! Do a favor to yourself and check out this gem, you won't regret it!

Rating : 10/10
