VARNA / This Time, It's Personal (EP)

VARNA is a female fronted hard rock/pop trio from Los Angeles, CA featuring Tiana Woods (vocals), Rossen Pinkas (guitar) and Rob Shin (drums). Formed in early 2010 as 'Living Eulogy', they came together after Rossen met Tiana while installing a fan in her apartment. Their debut EP, 'This Time, It's Personal", is been produced by Erik Ron (Saosin, I the Mighty, Panic At the Disco).

To be honest here, Varna's music grabbed me at once! Yes, their music can be described as modern pop-rock with powerful (low tuned) guitars and a big, 'fat' sound with all the necessary melodies, hooks and choruses. The vocal performances by Tiana Woods are superb and the rhythm section is tight as a rock!

"Down" which opens this 3-track EP is a 'punchier' rock tune that has it all to become a big hit while the next "My Heart" is a more commercial, radio-friendly song that is featuring a cool guitar riff, a sweet melody and a catchy chorus that stuck in your mind for days. "Running Away", that closes this EP is yet another awesome in-your-face rocker.

Bottom line is that "This Time, It's Personal" is a simply fantastic EP by VARNA that impressed me and left me hungry for more! Yes, this band is so talented and that's a thing that reflects in its music. I'm looking forward to a full-length album in the near future 'cause this band is build for bigger things!
